Role: Audio Technician

Reporting to: Campus and Technical Manager

Location: London College of Contemporary Music (LCCM) (The Music Box campus) - SE1

Salary: Competitive

Role Summary

The Audio Technician plays a vital role in ensuring the seamless operation of technical

services at LCCM. This includes the setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of audio and visual (A/V) equipment, studio and live sound systems, and ensuring that students and staff receive the necessary technical support for their academic and performance-related activities.

A key responsibility of this role is maintaining technical equipment, providing professional support for live events, and fostering a safe and effective learning environment.

The Audio Technician will also contribute to improving student engagement by ensuring accessible, high-quality technical resources.

Key responsibilities

Technical Operations & Support

  • Assist with the daily technical operations of the college, including power-up and power-down procedures, equipment setup, and troubleshooting.

  • Provide technical support to students and staff, ensuring the correct operation of studio, A/V, and live sound equipment.

  • Operate sound and A/V equipment during performances and events.

  • Set up and stage-manage live music performances and college-run events.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of best practices in audio engineering, troubleshooting, and music technology.

Equipment Maintenance & Inventory Management

  • Ensure all technical equipment is properly maintained, stored, and operated following standard procedures.

  • Oversee equipment lending processes, ensuring students and staff have access to the necessary resources.

  • Perform routine checks and maintenance on all audio equipment, instruments, and A/V systems.

  • Maintain an up-to-date inventory of technical assets and recommend improvements or replacements as needed.

Health & Safety Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to all Health & Safety regulations, promoting best practices for the safe use of equipment.

  • Conduct regular fire alarm tests and assist in maintaining emergency protocols.

  • Maintain a safe working environment by identifying risks and implementing necessary safety measures.

Student & Staff Engagement

  • Provide excellent technical support to enhance student learning experiences.

  • Offer hands-on guidance to students in understanding studio and live sound setups.

  • Work collaboratively with academic and technical teams to ensure an integrated approach to student support.

  • Contribute to high levels of student satisfaction through effective and responsive technical assistance.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential :

  • An undergraduate degree or equivalent experience in Music Technology, Studio Recording, Live Sound, or a related field.

  • Previous experience in recording studios, live performance environments, or similar technical support roles.

  • Ability to manage multiple technical duties in a fast-paced environment.

Desirable :

  • Dante Certification.

  • Training in Health & Safety or Equipment Maintenance.

  • Experience in technical support within an educational institution.

  • Experience working with external agencies and suppliers.

Knowledge & Skills

Essential :

  • Strong understanding of studio and live sound engineering principles.

  • Proficient use of Digital Audio

  • Workstations (DAWs) and plugins.

  • Knowledge of A/V equipment and troubleshooting techniques.

  • Understanding of musical instruments, backline setups, and general stage management.

  • Basic knowledge of electronics, including soldering and cable management.

  • Familiarity with software such as LogicPro, Google Services, Sibelius, MuseScore, and Microsoft 365

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work under pressure.

Desirable :

  • Advanced knowledge of sound engineering and mixing techniques.

  • Experience with Celcat or similar scheduling systems.

  • Understanding of current recording and production techniques.

  • Interest in working within the education sector.
