Summary of duties – The CBR Technician provides support to the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Indian Head Division’s (NSWC IHD) CBRD Warfighter Readiness Branch (W14). This individual will provide technical support, training, and operational expertise for Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosives (CBRNE) defense related to Navy Expeditionary Combat Command (NECC) and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) units. This includes CBRNE Readiness Assessment Visits (RAV); maintenance and sustainment of CBRNE detection, protection, and decontamination equipment; and support for CBRNE components within Navy Expeditionary Combat Command (NECC) Table of Allowance (TOA) equipment sets. The position requires the ability to apply structured problem-solving methods, process analysis, and technical design considerations to enhance sustainment and readiness outcomes.
Specific Description of Duties –
- Minimum of six (6) years of Navy EOD experience with at least one (1) deployment and training cycle that included CBRNE training at one of the National Labs (e.g., LLNL, SNL, DPG) or a completed tour as an EOD Training and Evaluation Unit (EOD TEU) CBRNE instructor. Experience should include practical application of CBRNE defense in an expeditionary environment with demonstrated ability in technical problem solving and logical analysis to support mission requirements.
- Three (3) years of applicable professional experience with the operations, maintenance, and repair of Navy CBRNE defense equipment, with emphasis on detection, identification, decontamination, and individual/collective protection within an expeditionary context, including process analysis and design considerations for sustainment and field support activities.
- In-depth knowledge of EOD Force Generation Cycle, NECC readiness reporting requirements, and relevant Navy instructions pertaining to CBRNE defense. Experience with the Navy's Material Maintenance Management (3-M) system is highly desirable, as is experience contributing to technical specifications development and documentation.
- Working knowledge of shipboard protocol and Naval Waterfront Maintenance Community. (This is a position with frequent travel.)
- Perform any other assignments or tasks as needed or requested by management to assist in accomplishing the organization’s mission, objectives and goals.
Education / Specialized Training –
- Graduate of Naval School Explosive Ordnance Disposal (NAVSCOLEOD) having obtained a Navy Enlisted Classification (NEC) of M04A (Master EOD Technician) or as a qualified Navy EOD Officer (130X) preferred. Candidates with extensive experience in Navy fleet ratings or jobs unique to CBRN duties, particularly those with experience on expeditionary systems and equipment, will be given strong consideration.
- Secret Security Clearance Required.
- Four (4) years of experience in Navy systems maintenance, test and evaluation, field support and training, with emphasis on applying analytical thinking and structured technical approaches to resolve complex issues.
- Ability to obtain and maintain certifications or possess equivalent experience in the following areas is preferred: forklift operation, HAZMAT shipping (49 CFR), CBRNE operations, radiation material and transportation (RAM), Assistant Radiation Safety Officer (ARSO), and web-based inventory management systems (e.g., ELMS).
- Strong knowledge of the EOD Force Generation Cycle, NECC readiness reporting and applicable Navy instructions related to CBRNE defense.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Willingness to learn and take on new responsibilities.
- Working knowledge of Word, excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
Security Clearance
Physical/Environmental Job Requirements –
- Ability to be able to walk reasonable distances (up to ½ mile one way) to meet with customers or other company personnel in the execution of job functions.
- Ability to be able to lift and carry up to 35 pounds.
- Work may occur in shipboard, shore, and field environments with exposure to weather and hazardous materials (with proper PPE and controls).

Working Conditions
- Must be able to travel CONUS/OCONUS independently, potentially to austere environments.
- Working conditions may include both indoor and outdoor environments, including potential exposure to inclement weather and hazardous materials. Work may be performed on Navy ships, shore facilities, or in field environments.
