Experienced AV Design Engineer
Position Summary Seeking Lead AV Design Engineer to provide technical leadership, drive high-quality system designs, and mentor engineering staff. This role partners closely with Sales, Project Management, and Implementation teams to deliver world-class commercial AV solutions. The ideal candidate brings strong design expertise, leadership ability, and a passion for delivering exceptional client experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead technical design for commercial AV projects from concept through deployment
- Partner with Sales during pre-construction to develop scopes of work, system designs, and equipment lists
- Provide engineering leadership post-sale, supporting project execution and commissioning
- Review and approve schematics, rack layouts, and technical documentation
- Serve as a subject matter expert for conferencing and collaboration systems (Microsoft Teams Rooms, Zoom)
- Troubleshoot complex AV, network, and integration issues both remotely and onsite
- Lead technical reviews and drive continuous improvement initiatives
- Deliver internal and client-facing technical training
- Mentor junior design engineers and promote technical best practices
- Stay current on emerging AV technologies and manufacturer training
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of commercial AV system design experience
- Proven leadership or mentoring experience in pre- and post-sales engineering
- Strong knowledge of AV system architecture and enterprise deployments
- Solid understanding of IP networking and AV-over-IP (Dante, VLANs, Multicast, TCP/IP, AVB)
- Experience designing conference rooms and collaboration environments
- Hands-on experience with:
- Control: Crestron, QSC
- Audio: Biamp, QSC
- Video & UC: Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Crestron, QSC
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Willingness to travel up to 30%
- CTS certification (or higher) preferred
Preferred Qualifications
- CTS-D or CTS-I certification
- Experience with Q-Sys or Crestron programming
- AutoCAD, BIM, Visio, Ease, or similar design software
- Knowledge of digital signage, room scheduling, and space management systems
- Manufacturer certifications (Crestron, QSC, Biamp)
