Who are we hiring?
Sphere Studios is looking for an experienced and motivated AV Technician to join our cutting-edge live production team in Los Angeles, California. As part of the AV Technician team, you will work with our internal departments and external vendors to support the technology needs of our VIP tours, screening, and production facility. Including daily maintenance & upkeep, inventory and other duties as assigned in the ongoing development of technology and shows. We will be operating throughout regular business hours and "production time" which may consist of working outside of regular business hours.
Due to the scale of the facility and the technology installed, the candidates will be comfortable working at heights, and will have experience in operating boom lifts and with rigging experience. This role will encounter times when the candidate needs to work in challenging physical scenarios with their arms and hands extended overhead for a period of time whilst conducting maintenance on large LED displays. This role will work with our studio operations and maintenance teams to ensure the 24/7 operation of our test sites, in addition to other duties as assigned.
What will you do?
- Work with the playback department to maintain our advanced audio-visual systems.
- Provide technical support for technology initiatives at Sphere Studios
- Assist in the maintenance, inventory, and install of LED modules throughout the venue.
- Keep assigned projects on course as efficiently as possible.
- Operate and provide preventative maintenance on elevated work platforms, including boom lifts.
- Work 2nd / 3rd shift plus weekends as needed.
- Document maintenance logs and RMA (Return Material Authorization) components.
- Assist in the creation and maintaining of procedural documents for technical operations and elements.
- Ensure compliance with company protocols and procedures.
- Ability to work without supervision and initiate assigned projects in a timely fashion.
- Proactively identify project risks and communicate these to management.
- Must be able to regularly lift 20-50lbs as part of the daily job duties.
- Support and participate in VIP tours and screenings as needed.
- Support and participate in operating all technical elements.
- Apply critical thinking and new learnings towards the betterment of Sphere Studios
What do you need to succeed?
- Minimum of 3+ years’ experience as an AV Technician in live event production.
- Experience as a certified ETCP rigger strongly preferred.
- Experience installing and maintaining LED displays, PA systems, theatrical lighting, overhead rigging, cabling systems, and media servers.
- Experience working with audio systems such as Dante, Qsys, and Qlab
- Ability to use power tools, AV tools, networking tools, and soldering.
- Proficiency in software (Microsoft office) hardware skills required for the operation and maintenance of wide range of AV equipment.
- OSHA 10 preferred
- Fall protection certified preferred.
