Do you excel in designing complex systems where DSP, embedded software, and hardware interact seamlessly to deliver extraordinary audio experiences? Are you driven by architectural clarity, elegant design, and long-term platform scalability? Join Bang & Olufsen — a world leader in sound and craftsmanship — and take a key role in shaping the audio technology platform behind our next generation of loudspeakers.
As a Principal DSP & Embedded Audio System Architect, you will define and drive the architecture of our DSP and embedded audio platforms. You will work across system layers — from algorithm topology and audio pipeline design to embedded frameworks, Linux integration, and cross-processor coordination.
Key responsibilities
This role is ideal for someone who thrives on architecting large, interdependent systems, ensuring long-term maintainability, and building robust, high-performance signal paths that deliver the iconic Bang & Olufsen sound. You will collaborate with teams across DSP, platform software, hardware, and acoustics to build a unified, scalable architecture leveraged across future product generations. Furthermore you will be responsible for:
SYSTEM ARCHITECTURE & PLATFORM OWNERSHIP
· Define the architectural vision for DSP and embedded audio systems across the loudspeaker portfolio.
· Design scalable audio processing pipelines, addressing modularity, latency, synchronization, memory footprint, and CPU/DSP workload balance.
· Establish system interfaces, boundaries, and integration patterns between DSP cores, embedded Linux, hardware peripherals, and cloud-enabled features.
· Ensure architectural alignment across teams and product lines.
DSP & EMBEDDED SOFTWARE EXCELLENCE
· Lead the system-level design of DSP frameworks, multi-core coordination, and real-time signal flows.
· Architect efficient, maintainable, and reusable DSP modules in C++ for embedded platforms.
· Guide the implementation of processing topologies on platforms such as ARM-based SoCs and Analog Devices SHARC DSPs.
LINUX & LOW-LEVEL INTEGRATION
· Define how DSP processing interacts with the Linux audio stack (ALSA, device drivers, scheduling policies, memory architecture).
· Drive decisions on kernel-space vs. user-space responsibilities, buffering strategies, and real-time constraints.
TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP
· Act as a cross-functional technical authority, influencing decision-making across DSP, software, hardware, and acoustics.
· Mentor senior engineers, raise the technical bar, and help shape engineering strategy.
· Contribute to long-term roadmaps for DSP frameworks, embedded platforms, and system tooling.
QUALITY, SCALABILITY & FUTURE-PROOFING
· Ensure architectural choices support robustness, testability, traceability, performance profiling, and sustainable long-term maintenance.
· Evaluate emerging technologies and guide innovation within the product platform.
What you bring
As a Principal DSP & Embedded Audio System Architect you bring experience architecting complex embedded audio systems or DSP-heavy consumer/pro audio products. You are excellent in communication, consistently articulating decisions, trade-offs, and system behaviours with clarity to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You are passionate about audio technology and desire to build platforms that endure.
Moreover, you bring:
· 10+ years in real-time DSP, embedded system architecture, or high-performance audio platforms.
· Deep expertise in real-time DSP: algorithm pipelines, dynamic processing, protection schemes, FIR/IIR filtering, multi-band systems, and numerical optimization.
· Strong proficiency in modern C++ and structured software architecture.
· Solid understanding of embedded Linux, including low-level audio subsystems, kernel behavior, hardware abstraction, and performance optimization.
· Experience designing for multi-core or heterogeneous compute systems (SoC + DSP).
· Preferred: Hands-on experience with Analog Devices SHARC DSPs and their toolchains.
· Ability to define clear architectural patterns, enforce best practices, and drive consensus across technical teams.
