As a Sr. Audio HW Systems Engineer, you will lead audio hardware design for new product initiatives from concept through launch and drive audio technology initiatives. Working as part of a cross-functional hardware design team, you will deliver complete audio solutions, including feature scoping, writing specifications, in-depth design of loudspeaker and microphone systems, factory build support, test and validation, and final playback tuning. You will champion audio performance in our products and be recognized as a technical leader across all levels of Amazon management.

Key job responsibilities
In this role, you will:


- Define audio performance targets with product management and design subsystems to meet them for both playback and microphone systems
- Simulate, prototype, and demonstrate audio product concepts
- Lead audio hardware representation on cross-functional product teams
- Serve as a technical representative for audio in leadership reviews and demos
- Support factory builds, including test and failure analysis
- Own audio hardware test and validation and drive debugging of issues
- Tune playback systems to deliver exceptional audio experiences that delight customers
- Innovate and integrate new audio technologies
- Develop design processes to drive continuous improvement in the audio hardware team
- Advance simulation and measurement methodologies


About the team
As a Sr. Audio HW Systems Engineer, you will report to the Audio Hardware team and work as a member of cross-functional product teams.

The Audio Hardware team brings together diverse expertise, including project leads and specialists in mechanical engineering, tuning, electrical engineering, and transducer design. This team is part of the broader Audio Technology organization, which encompasses algorithms, software, DSP, research and applied science, and QA.

Together, we are responsible for delivering world-class audio experiences in Amazon's consumer products, from Echo devices to other innovative hardware. Our team values technical excellence, cross-functional collaboration, and a relentless focus on customer delight through superior audio quality.

- Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, or equivalent
- 5+ years of experience in audio product development
- Experience with acoustic system design including loudspeakers and microphones
- Experience with acoustic measurement and characterization tools (e.g., Klippel, SoundCheck, Audio Precision)
- Experience supporting factory builds and production testing
- Experience with audio signal processing and playback tuning

- Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production
- Experience with the project management of technical projects
- Master's degree in acoustics, engineering, physics, or equivalent
- Proven track record of delivering high volume consumer audio devices, including smart speakers
- Knowledge of DFx principles (design for cost, test, manufacturing, reliability)
- Experience with simulation tools such as COMSOL, MATLAB, or equivalent for acoustic modeling
- Experience with mechanical integration including preventing rub and buzz and designing microphone seals
- Knowledge of audio electronics and transducer design
- Experience with system integration across multiple disciplines (Mechanical, Electrical, Power, Thermal, RF)
- Experience with subjective audio quality evaluation
- Track record of driving technology initiatives or NTIs (New Technology Initiatives)
- Knowledge of hardware design for acoustic echo cancellation
- Demonstrated depth in a sub-field of audio (i.e. transducer design, acoustics, signal processing, playback tuning)

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
