Audiovisual Technician / Auditorium Coordinator (Anticipated)
Location: Northern High School
Assignment: 12-month position
Reports To: High School Principal; indirectly reports to Director of IT
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8 hours per day as assigned; evenings and weekends as needed based on events calendar.
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
2026-2026 Support Staff Salary Range: $19.75 - $31.50 per hour
SUMMARY OF PURPOSE
Responsible for the oversight, installation, operation, maintenance, and strategic support of audiovisual systems across seven district buildings, in addition to serving as the Technical Director for the Northern High School Auditorium. Manages district-wide classroom AV infrastructure, live event production, school board livestreamed meetings, student technical crews, vendor coordination, and equipment procurement. The role requires independent decision-making, flexible scheduling, strong organizational skills, and the ability to support a high volume of concurrent technical and event-based responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
District-Wide AV Systems Management
- Receives requests using the IT ticketing system and provides comprehensive audiovisual support across seven district buildings, including classrooms, meeting spaces, auditoriums, gymnasiums, and district offices.
- Installs, configures, maintains, and troubleshoots AV equipment including but not limited to interactive flat panels (IFPs), SmartBoards, projectors, speakers, wireless presentation systems, displays, conferencing equipment, and related peripherals.
- Assists with the annual installation and deployment of approximately 50 interactive displays, including cabling, configuration, and coordination with district departments.
- Performs system troubleshooting and minor to moderate equipment repairs; coordinates external repairs and warranty claims as needed.
- Collaborates with the IT Department to resolve AV-related tickets and ensure system compatibility with district infrastructure.
Auditorium & Live Event Production
- Serves as Technical Director for the High School Auditorium and designated performance spaces.
- Plans, coordinates, and executes technical production for concerts, musicals (elementary, middle, and high school), assemblies, community events, and special programs.
- Operates and programs lighting systems (including Chroma-Q fixtures with Vista control software), audio systems, and video systems.
- Manages wireless microphone inventory, digital audio consoles, ADA listening systems, intercom systems, and recording equipment.
- Assists with staging, set movement, load-in, and load-out activities, including physical labor and coordination of volunteers and student crew.
- Secures facilities by unlocking/locking interior and exterior access points as required for rehearsals and events.
- Serves as the final on-site technical representative during events and productions.
Streaming & Recording
- Oversees and produces school board livestreams, including setup, operation, and teardown.
- Manages recording of concerts, meetings, and presentations; performs basic post-production editing and file distribution.
- Maintains proper storage and archival of recorded materials.
Vendor & Equipment Management
- Coordinates equipment rentals and vendor relationships for productions and district events.
- Tracks AV inventory and forecasts annual consumable and replacement needs (e.g., microphone elements, cables, tape, lighting accessories).
- Works within established budget allocations to prioritize purchases and maintain operational readiness.
- Supports ongoing system upgrades including communication systems and ADA listening enhancements.
Student Supervision & Program Leadership
- Recruits, trains, supervises, and schedules student technical crew members.
- Provides instruction in safe and proper operation of lighting, audio, staging, and AV systems.
- Submits documentation to the Finance Department for approved student-paid events.
Scheduling & Coordination
- Manages event workflow through the district's facilities scheduling system (FMX), coordinating approvals and technical requirements.
- Communicates regularly with administration, directors, faculty, and external groups regarding technical needs and event logistics.
- Participates in orientation sessions and provides guidance to staff regarding AV capabilities and best practices.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/ SKILLS / ABILITIES
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree in Audiovisual Technology, Media Production, Theater Technology, or related field preferred.
- At least two years of experience in the operation of audiovisual systems, live production, or related technical field preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of lighting systems, digital audio consoles, wireless microphone systems, and livestream production.
- Proficiency with multimedia software and recording/editing platforms.
- Working knowledge of network-connected AV devices and classroom technology systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and related collaboration tools.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills in a variety of situations.
- Strong leadership skills when working with students, staff, and others.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to perform minor repairs to equipment.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS
Activities: Sitting 70%, walking/standing 30%,(extended periods of standing during events and productions); occasional lifting required over 50 lbs.; occasional squatting, kneeling, stooping, and reaching as needed to set-up/install/ manipulate computer and audiovisual equipment. Occasionally perform work in elevated technical areas.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
This position is directly responsible to the High School Principal and indirectly responsible to the Director of IT.
REQUIRED CLEARANCES
The following clearances must be provided upon hire and updated every five years in accordance with Act 153: PA State Police-Act 34, Child Abuse- Act 151, and FBI Fingerprint-Act 114. Child Abuse training (or proof of completion) in accordance with Act 126 upon hire and repeated every five years thereafter. A negative TB test and physical is required upon hire.
