Audiovisual Production and Design Technician, University Center

The University Center (UC) invites applications for a Audiovisual Production and Design Technician to support both live event production and the maintenance and advancement of audio, lighting and display technology systems within the University Center and James Todd Center. The position requires availability during evenings, nights, and weekends, with irregular hours based on event schedules. Long shifts, early starts, late finishes and working outdoors in the elements and at various UM venues are common.

• Assist with the installation, configuration, maintenance, and integration of AV systems, including video conferencing, streaming, and control technologies
• Troubleshoot, repair, inventory and support a range of AV equipment, while training end-users and maintaining up-to-date documentation and training materials
• Contribute to strategic planning, vendor coordination, and ongoing professional development to stay current with emerging AV technologies
• Deliver high-quality AV support for CES events by setting up, operating, and managing sound, lighting, and video systems across various UM venues
• Ensure a positive client experience through effective communication, responsive on-site troubleshooting, and professional customer service
• Maintain equipment integrity through proper handling, storage, data management, and media preparation, including duplication and digitization
• Attend and actively participate in weekly pre-production meetings providing technical impute and event enhancement ideas and troubleshooting ideas for all of the events
• Support the overall success of the University Center and James Todd Centers by performing other duties as assigned
• Provide limited supervision and training to student or intermittent part-time staff, primarily in task assignment and scheduling

• Bachelor’s degree; preference for degrees in audiovisual technologies or related fields. Equivalent experience and education may substitute for formal educational requirements
• Extensive knowledge of AV systems, including modern lighting, audio, display technology, and control programming
• Proven ability to manage multiple complex AV projects in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments
• Strong technical expertise in digital/analog electronics, video distribution, and system diagnostics
• Excellent organizational, communication, and project management skills
• Demonstrated flexibility, creativity, and cultural competency in event planning and execution
• Exceptional customer service skills with the ability to engage and manage diverse stakeholders effectively

Compensation Title: Stage Production Coordinator I

Work Schedule: Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), Varies- Events driven, 12 months/year

Probationary Period: Six (6) months minimum
