A growing engineering consulting firm is looking for a Senior Audio-Visual (AV) Designer to lead the design and consulting efforts for AV systems across a variety of complex infrastructure projects. This role includes the design of presentation, collaboration, and integrated audio-visual environments for new builds, renovations, and system upgrades. Projects may range from standalone AV systems to large-scale, multi-system initiatives involving coordination with IT, communications, and security teams.
The ideal candidate has deep experience creating AV design documentation, working closely with architects and consultants, and providing hands-on support through all phases of design and construction.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead AV system design from initial concept through final construction documentation
- Evaluate client needs and translate them into detailed system designs and technical solutions
- Prepare detailed AV drawings, signal flow diagrams, equipment lists, and specifications in CSI format
- Collaborate with architects, owners, MEP consultants, and technology teams to ensure cohesive system integration
- Conduct system performance analysis, product research, and cost estimation
- Support construction administration tasks, including submittal review, field reports, and punch list walkthroughs
- Ensure QA/QC is followed across deliverables
- Help manage project timelines, budgets, and internal resources
- Mentor junior designers and engineers on AV best practices and industry standards
Qualifications
- Associate degree in Engineering Technology, AV Systems, or a related field (Bachelor’s preferred)
- 10+ years of experience in AV system design and consulting
- CTS-D or equivalent AV industry certification strongly preferred
- Familiarity with EIA/TIA, InfoComm, and ADA standards
- Revit and AutoCAD proficiency required
- Experience working on AV designs for airports, healthcare, higher education, or government facilities is a plus
- Strong communication, coordination, and documentation skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team
- Engagement in AV or low voltage industry associations a plus
