Master Thesis - Linearization of a Loudspeaker

Scope: 2 students completing 30 credits (20 weeks) each.
Background
Axis communications have a growing number of products which includes paging systems loudspeakers.
The most common loudspeaker driver design consists of a membrane attached to a coil and the coil is located in a magnetic gap.
When an electric current goes through the coil in the magnetic gap, a force is generated and the coil with the attached membrane moves. These movements generate air pressure variations – Sound.
If the coil movements are small, within the magnetic gap, the movements are linear to the electric input signal, but as the displacement increases the magnetic force is reduced and on top of that, mechanical counter forces increases with displacement, which leads to non-linearities consisting of harmonic distortions.

For this thesis proposal we target students with a strong interest in audio, electronics, software and signal processing. Most likely you are studying a master program in electronics engineering or engineering physics.
