Staff Mixed Signal Design Engineer

Analog Devices’ A2B team is a world leader in audio connectivity, targeting automotive, consumer, smart building, and emerging applications. A2B is a high-bandwidth, bidirectional audio bus transceiver system that enables next-gen audio solutions.

About the Role
As a Staff Mixed Signal Design Engineer in the A2B Team, you will provide technical leadership in the design and development of sophisticated mixed-signal integrated circuits (ICs). These include Transceivers, ADCs, DACs, PLLs, Oscillators, Analog Filters, Power Management circuits, Voltage and Current Reference IPs, and other mixed-signal blocks for automotive application.

You'll make critical architectural decisions, drive technical innovation, and establish mixed-signal design methodologies.

Your expertise will bridge analog and digital domains enabling you to optimize system performance while mentoring junior engineers and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-performance semiconductor solutions. In addition to working with Analog and Digital design engineers, you will work closely with Layout, DV, Applications and Test engineers as well as integrating IC products into system solutions at the PCB level.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • MSEE with 7+ years of relevant mixed-signal design experience
  • Proficient in Cadence Virtuoso.
  • Prior experience in analog front-end (AFE) or transceiver signal chain in sub-micron CMOS technologies is preferred.
  • Power management and/or Power over Data Line (PoDL) knowledge is desirable.
  • Familiarity with EMC standards is a plus.
  • Demonstrated track record of successfully taking multiple products from concept through production release.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a global team environment.
  • Excellent communication, planning and organizational skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the architectural definition and design of complex mixed-signal ICs from concept through production release
  • Drive technical decisions for mixed-signal block integration, considering system-level tradeoffs and performance requirements
  • Provide technical guidance to less experienced engineers and influence design approaches across teams
  • Develop comprehensive verification strategies for mixed-signal systems and lead advanced laboratory testing
  • Represent the design team to other functions and influence technical approaches without direct authority
  • Contribute to the development of new theories and methods in mixed-signal design and drive continuous improvement in design methodologies
  • Lead complex projects with significant business impact, often directing work of others without formal management responsibilities

Must Have Skills

  • Strategic Design: Make critical architectural decisions that optimize performance, power, and area across mixed-signal boundaries
  • System-Level Integration: Drive complex integration of analog and digital IP blocks, ensuring robust performance across varied operating conditions
  • Advanced Methodologies: Apply cutting-edge design methodologies and establish best practices for mixed-signal design
  • Mixed-Signal Circuit Mastery: Apply expert-level knowledge to architect and implement sophisticated mixed-signal circuits including power management ICs, ADCs, DACs, and PLLs
  • Performance Optimization: Implement advanced techniques for optimizing circuits across multiple parameters including noise, timing, and power consumption
  • Verification Strategy: Develop comprehensive verification approaches for complex mixed-signal systems
  • EDA Tool Mastery: Demonstrate mastery of industry-standard EDA tools including SPICE, MATLAB, and Cadence Design Suite
  • Advanced Simulation: Apply sophisticated simulation techniques to predict and optimize circuit performance under various conditions
  • Physical Implementation: Guide physical design teams on implementation strategies to meet performance requirements
  • Design Innovation: Contribute to the development of new theories and methods in mixed-signal IC design
  • Strategic Contribution: Significantly contribute to project proposals, staffing, and budgeting forecast
